Mas de Daumas Gassacin the heart of Languedoc is the epitome of a modern, quality-orientated founding story. What makes the winery so special is that it was founded at a time when the region was not yet a major wine centre, as well as its uncompromising philosophy that goes beyond the classic appellation system.

  • 🏰 The foundation of a legend: The modern story begins in 1970, when Aimé and Véronique Guibert acquired an old farmstead in the wild and romantic Gassac valley. The decisive clue came from geology professor Henri Enjalbert, who recognised the cool microclimate and mineral-rich soils as having enormous potential for top-quality wines. Under the guidance of the famous oenologist Émile Peynaud, the first single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon was produced in 1978.

  • 🌳 Terroir & philosophy: The centrepiece of the winery is its sustainable soil management. Around 50 different grape varieties are cultivated on50 hectares of glacial gravel and limestone soils. The 1,500 hectares of surrounding garrigue protect the vines and create a unique microclimate. The wines, which are classified as Vin de Pays de l'Hérault (IGP) due to the unconventional grape varieties , show enormous ageing potential over time.

  • 🍷Significance of the wines: The unclarified, very low-yielding Cabernet Sauvignon vines for the red wine and the highly complex white cuvée made from around 20 varieties have long since become cult. The high international ratings (e.g. 95 Falstaff points) and the reception as the "only Grand Cru of the Midi" emphasise this status to this day.
