Château Peyreau is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru and part of the renowned Vignobles Comtes von Neipperg, one of the most important wine-growing estates in Bordeaux. The German-French noble family von Neipperg has been inextricably linked to winegrowing since the 13th century . Josef Hubert Count von Neipperg acquired Château Peyreau in the early 1970s, along with the prestigious estates Château Canon La Gaffelière and La Mondotte . Since 1985, his son Stephan Graf von Neipperg has been at the helm of the estates and has led the brand to world fame .

Château Peyreau is situated in the immediate vicinity of the Clos de l’Oratoire on the north-eastern hillside of Saint-Émilion . The vineyards cover 10.07 hectares on soils comprising clay-limestone and ‘Molasse du Fronsadais’, as well as clay-sand at the foot of the slope . The grape varieties consist of 90 per cent Merlot and 10 per cent Cabernet Franc, with the vines having an average age of 25 years .

Winemaking adheres to the estate’s uncompromising approach to quality. The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted whilst still in the vineyard to ensure optimal ripeness . Fermentation takes place slowly in temperature-controlled concrete tanks with a maceration period of 15 to 21 days, with extraction carried out using pneumatic pigeage . The wine is aged for 12 to 18 months in barriques that have already been used once or twice .
