Coche-Dury: Iconic precision in Burgundy
In the heart of the Côte de Beaune, where the gentle slopes of Meursault face the morning sun and the chalky soil whispers the scent of the earth to the vines, lies a vineyard of almost mystical grandeur – Domaine Coche-Dury.
The roots of this estate stretch back to the 1920s, when Léon Coche acquired the first plots. Yet the true foundation for today’s legend was laid in 1973, when Jean-François Coche took over the estate from his father Georges. Shortly afterwards, he married Odile Dury, whose name became intertwined with his own – and Coche became Coche-Dury. Today, his son Raphaël steers the estate’s fortunes , a quiet guardian of a tradition that lives on in every bottle of their fine wine.
The estate cultivates around nine to twelve hectares of vineyards, the heart of which lies in Meursault . Yet its fame extends far beyond the village’s boundaries – all the way to the prestigious vineyards of Puligny-Montrachet and the sublime Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne. Here, on the barren limestone soils, the vines take deep root and wrest the very essence from the rock: grapes of concentrated power and mineral elegance. The Chardonnays produced here are not merely wines – they are cult wines. They rank amongst the most sought-after white Burgundies in the world, and their aromas of ripe fruit, delicate spices and a vibrant minerality possess a depth that leaves even seasoned connoisseurs in awe.
Yet Coche-Dury’s fame is not a loud one, but a quiet one. Jean-François Coche, a man of almost ascetic modesty, used to say that it wasthe strict discipline, the unceasing vigilance and the loyalty to the old school that made his wines so exceptional. This spirit comes to life in the cellar: The white wines mature for 18 months in oak barrels, accompanied by meticulous yeast management that lends them structure and longevity. Neither fined nor filtered, they are bottled in their purest form – a tribute to the unadulterated terroir.
Domaine Coche-Dury is more than just a vineyard – it is a living poem composed of limestone, oak and the boundless patience of a family. A wine of timeless elegance that embodies the soul of Meursault, the light of the Côte de Beaune and the unwavering dedication of four generations.
