Domaine Ramonet – The unforgettable mastery of white Burgundy

Domaine Ramonet is undoubtedly one of Burgundy’s great, legendary estates. It is situated in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, more precisely in the famous village of Chassagne-Montrachet. The estate was founded in the 1920s by Pierre Ramonet, who arrived in Burgundy at the age of just 30 and began his life’s work there. With foresight and entrepreneurial skill, he acquired in 1978 the region’s most prestigious terroir, the Grand Cru vineyard of Montrachet – a cornerstone of the estate’s subsequent worldwide fame. Even before the Second World War, Pierre Ramonet was exporting his wines to the USA and supplying Michelin-starred restaurants, thereby laying the foundations for the outstanding reputation the Domaine continues to enjoy today.

Today, the legacy is carried on by the third generation, grandsons Noël and Jean-Claude Ramonet. The vineyards, totalling 17 to 18 hectares , stretch across the finest sites in Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet and include some of the world’s most famous Grands Crus, amongst them Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet . With the utmost care and a commitment to the highest quality, yield is strictly limited on these plots . The white wines, made almost exclusively from the Chardonnay grape variety, are the undisputed star of the domaine . They uniquely combine freshness, vibrancy and richness and are renowned for their exceptional ageing potential – unlike many other wines, which lose their vigour over the years, Ramonet wines develop even greater freshness and complexity with time. One of the hallmarks of this style is the use of 100 per cent new oak barrels for ageing . In addition to its world-famous white wines, the domaine also produces, on around seven hectares, remarkable red wines made from Pinot Noir, which are characterised by their power and good ageing potential.

Domaine Ramonet is today a jewel of Burgundy and is celebrated by connoisseurs as one of the leading producers of white Burgundy. Its wines epitomise tradition, excellence and the incomparable expression of their unique terroir.
