The Korrell Johanneshof winery in Bad Kreuznach-Bosenheimis a traditional winery with Spanish roots that is known for its multi-layered Rieslings and consistent quality work from vineyard care to the bottle. Under the management of the sixth generation, the estate is successfully continuing its 250-year history.

📜 History & location

The winery, now known as the Korrell Johanneshof winery, looks back on a long tradition. It was founded in 1832, but the Korrell family, originally from Spain, has been growing grapes here for around 250 years. The "Johanneshof" part of the name commemorates Johannes Korrell, who was the first in the family to start growing grapes.

Originally a mixed agricultural business, Wilfried Korrelldecided in 1967 to switch completely to viticulture - a groundbreaking decision for the future of the estate. Today, Martin and Britta Korrellare the sixth generation of the family to run the business . A newly built, modern wine press house was put into operation in2011 to meet the technical requirements for high quality.

🍇 Vineyards, grape varieties & philosophy

Today, the winery cultivates around 26 hectares of vines. The vineyards cover several of the best sites in the region, including Paradies, Rosenberg and St. Martin in Bad Kreuznach, Kirschheck in Norheim, Klamm in Niederhausen as well as In den Felsen and Königsfels in Schloßböckelheim.

  • Soils: The rocky soils are characterised by great diversity, including volcanic, shell limestone, sandstone and clay marl. They give the wines a special minerality and complexity. The Paradelage Paradies is the centrepiece of the estate, where the Rieslings thrive on particularly complex shell limestone and clay marl soils.

  • Grape varieties & quality: The most important grape variety is Riesling, to which the estate dedicates around 50% of its vineyards. The spectrum is complemented by Burgundy, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer, Silvaner, Muscat, Scheurebe and the red varieties Pinot Noir, Frühburgunder, Portugieser and Dornfelder.

  • Viticulture & cellar technology: The winery is committed to uncompromising quality work: this includes year-round foliage care, thinning out grapes and selective hand-picking. Many Riesling wines are fermented spontaneously. In the cellar, the white wines mature for a long time on the fine lees, while the red wines are maturedin barrique barrels.

  • Portfolio & VDP: Although the estate is not a member of the VDP, the quality levels are based on its classification. The Riesling "Die ältesten Reben" from the Kreuznacher Paradies, the Riesling from the Niederhäuser Klamm and the red wine cuvée "Ars Vini" are particular flagships . An ice wine is also produced in suitable years - most recently in the 2021 vintage.
