Inchmurrin – a name that does not evoke a distillery, but rather an island, ancient forests and the whisper of the wind across the water.

The history of this extraordinary single malt is inextricably linked to the Loch Lomond Distillery, Scotland’s most versatile distillery . Founded in 1965 by the American Littlemill Distillery Company, it was conceived from the outset as a kind of experimental workshop – a place where tradition met a spirit of innovation. At the heart of this creativity lie the famous Lomond stills: rare stills with cylindrical necks and adjustable plates, which allow the master distiller to control the character of the distillate with a precision that is second to none.

However, the distillery’s fortunes have been chequered. In 1984,the still pots fell silent amidst the devastating overproduction crisis, and it was not until 1987 that it came back to life under new management. A devastating fire in 1997 forced a comprehensive modernisation, but the distillery rose from the ashes stronger than ever. Today it is part of the Loch Lomond Distillery Co. and produces up to eight different styles of whisky under one roof .

Inchmurrin itself is the most elegant and unpeated expression within this broad range. Distilled in the long-necked Lomond stills, it develops a particularly light and fruity character – a whisky with grassy freshness and floral delicacy, which delights with notes of peach, apricot, toffee and vanilla. For a long time, it was merely a quiet companion in the company’s own blends , but since the takeover by Colin Matthews and Exponent Private Equity, it has grown in prominence . Today, the range includes various age statements as well as a Madeira Wood Finish .
