The quiet guardian of the Grande Rue – Domaine Lamarche

Nestled between the sublime boundaries of Romanée-Conti and La Tâche, stands a vineyard of quiet, almost defiant grandeur – Domaine Lamarche.

Its roots run deep into the history of Burgundy: as early as 1740, the family’s ancestors were living in the picturesque wine-growing village of Vosne-Romanée, but the estate as it stands today was not established until the early 20th century by Henri Lamarche, a cooper by trade. It was a modest beginning, yet one that laid the foundation for a legacy that was to endure for generations to come.

At the heart of this poetry lies La Grande Rue, a Grand Cru of breathtaking rarity, which the Lamarche family owns as an exclusive monopoly. Nestled between the legendary vineyards of Romanée-Conti and La Tâche, this vineyard rises like a quiet yet unyielding neighbour in the shadow of the giants – a 1.65-hectare plot that was officially elevated in 1992 to the select circle of Grands Crus. It is a terroir of unparalleled depth, whose chalky soil lends the vines a mineral rigour and, at the same time, a beguiling elegance.

Across just over eleven hectares of vineyards, predominantly planted with Pinot Noir, the vines unfold their timeless interplay – in the prestigious sites of Clos de Vougeot, Echezeaux and Grands-Echezeaux. Since 2010, the estate has been organically managed, a philosophy of care that shows equal respect for both the soil and the vines. The grapes are harvested by hand, rigorously selected, and the winemaking process remains minimalist, allowing the authentic terroir to shine through in every bottle.

Today, the legacy is upheld by Nicole Lamarche, who, together with her cousin Nathalie, runs the estate as the fourth generation of the family. Their wines are characterised by pure, graceful elegance – refined, precise and with a translucent texture that captures the soul of Vosne-Romanée in every drop. Domaine Lamarche is more than just a winery – it is the silent guardian of one of Burgundy’s finest Grands Crus, a living poem of Pinot Noir, limestone soil and the unwavering devotion of a family that, for generations, has encapsulated the essence of their homeland in every bottle – a wine that carries within it the tranquillity of the ancient vines and the light of the Côte de Nuits.
