🍇 Weingut Keller - Rheinhessen's icon

The Keller winery, run by star winemaker Klaus-Peter Keller, is internationally renowned for its world-class dry Rieslings. The estate's home is the Westhofener Berg in Rheinhessen with its slopes characterised by limestone and shell limestone, which give the wine tension, salt and finesse. The "Von der Fels" is considered the foundation of the cellar empire - a cuvée from the famous Kirchspiel, Hubacker and Morstein vineyards, which acts as an ambitious and transparent link to the great growths.

🧾 The 2024 vintage - a master of minerality

As the 2025 vintage is not yet on the market, our attention is focussed on its immediate predecessor, 2024, which was tasted at the winery in August 2025 and judged to be an exceptional vintage by top judges.

Expectations for the 2025 vintage:Although the final judgement is still pending, based on Klaus-Peter Keller's continuity and the typical high acidity structure, it can be assumed that the 2025 vintage will once again produce a dry, extremely delicate and mineral-salty Riesling with the scent of citrus, white flowers and fine flint. The quality of the "Von der Fels" cuvée is at a consistently high level, making it worth savouring even or especially at a young age.

📝 Tasting note & rating (2024 vintage)

The cellar experts agree: the 2024 is an excellent introduction to the great Riesling art of the winery. The following table summarises the tasters' most important ratings and characteristics:

CharacteristicCharacteristic Description
Rating93 points (Stephen Reinhardt , The Wine Advocate)
93 points (Community, Cellartracker)
92 points (Vin)
92 points (James Suckling)
17/20 (Julia Harding, Jancis Robinson)
Structure & textureLean, elegant and juicy on the palate, with a firm structure, salty minerality and a straightforward, accessible style.
Fruit & flavourThe nose is bright, fresh and savoury with notes of citrus, white peach and a hint of white violets.
MineralityExtremely present: limestone and chalk characterise the long, savoury finish and give the wine its unmistakable "cellar" signature.
Drinking maturityIt is already extremely accessible and easy to drink in its youth, but shows enormous potential for long ageing. The range is given by experts from 2028 to 2045.

Aromas in detail: The wine shows a beautiful fullness of extract in the glass and is bone dry (residual sugar under 3 g/l). Aromas of lime, lemon zest, grapefruit, white flowers, sage, herbs and a hint of smoky flint accompany the taste experience. The acidity is high, but perfectly integrated.

🍽️ Service & food recommendation

  • Serving temperature: Serve well chilled at 9-11 °C. In summer, enjoy a little colder to emphasise the fresh acidity.

  • Food pairing: A wonderful accompaniment to seafood, sushi or Asian cuisine with coriander and lime. It also goes perfectly with grilled white meat and mixed salads.

🔮 Ageing potential & conclusion

The "Von der Fels" is not a wine for quick consumption, even if it impresses when young. The combination of high acidity, extract and minerality gives it enormous ageing potential. Experts advise opening the first bottles from 2028 at the earliest, with a peak between 2030 and 2040. Those who have the patience will be rewarded with enormous aromatic complexity and depth.
