Product information
Colour:
Deep gold with amber reflections, already slightly honeyed in colour - a sign of successful maturation.
Nose:
Intense, complex and of great elegance. Aromas of dried apricots, candied oranges, honey and a fine spiciness (saffron, ginger). Slight hints of caramel and smoke, typical of mature Riesling Beerenauslese wines.
Palate:
Opulent sweetness, perfectly balanced by a lively acidity. Flavours of ripe peaches, quince jam, almonds and a delicate minerality. The texture is silky, almost oily, with a long persistence.
Finish:
Extremely long lasting, with a harmonious finish of honey, roasted nuts and a subtle salty note.
Overall impression:
An outstanding, mature Riesling from one of the best vineyards in the Rheingau. Even after more than 50 years, the 1971 Beerenauslese shows an astonishing freshness and complexity of maturity. A wine of museum-like character that impressively represents the great tradition of Kloster Eberbach and the Rauenthaler Baiken.
Rating:
96/100 points (classic top wine with historical significance)
