Product information
Historically, Chateau Margaux was already mentioned in documents in the 15th century. However, the exact date cannot be determined, but the property was owned by Pierre de Lestonnac between 1572 and 1582. Through a marriage in 1654, Chateau Margaux came to the Bordelais Pontac family, who also managed the ownership of Chateau haut Brion at this time. The estate, which had been managed very steadily until then, experienced a difficult time during the French Revolution. Chateau Margaux was confiscated only to be bought back a short time later by one of the last heiresses of the family with luck and skill. Driven by the burden of debt, the Margaux estate then passed to the Basque Colonilla in 1804, who also built the magnificent and famous Chateau Margaux in its current form in 1816.
