Château Gazin 2011 – Overview
The Château Gazin 2011 is a classic Pomerol from a vintage often described as traditional and overshadowed by the great vintages of 2009 and 2010. With a little time in the bottle, it is now more approachable and offers plenty of typical Right Bank character.
🍷 Style & Grape Varieties
Grape varieties: approx. 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon
Alcohol: 13.5% vol.
Ageing: 15–18 months in barriques, 45–50 per cent of which are new
The wine is full-bodied, rich and tannic. The château’s official tasting notes describe aromas of sour cherry, blackberry, cassis, a hint of toast, pepper and caramel. On the palate, it is silky and full-bodied with a long, tannic finish that softens with age.
Robert Parker described the 2011 vintage as “powerful and virile” with a deep ruby colour, great, meaty body and notes of coffee, black cherry liqueur and spices.
👃 Tasting notes in detail
Nose: sour cherry, blackberry, cassis, floral (violet), toast, pepper, caramel; hints of crushed strawberry and mocha
Palate: silky texture, full-bodied, well-integrated tannins, medium length, slightly creamy
Character: traditional, structured, accessible with a little air and time to mature

🕰️ Drinking window & conclusion
Depending on the source ,the drinking window is given asapproximately 2015–2028 or 2022–2032. The wine is therefore currently at a lovely stage for drinking, but can still be cellared for a few more years.
Conclusion: The Château Gazin 2011 is a solid, traditional Pomerol with power and a well-structured tannin profile. It benefits from a little aeration and, perhaps, an hour’s decanting. Anyone who has a bottle in their cellar can enjoy it now or allow it to mature further.
