Joseph Cartron’s Double Crème de Cassis de Bourgogne is one of the most renowned blackcurrant liqueurs from the heart of Burgundy. The company of the same name, Joseph Cartron, was founded in 1882 in Nuits-Saint-Georges and is now run by the fifth generation of the family. Since its foundation, Maison Cartron has specialised in the production of high-quality liqueurs, crèmes and eaux-de-vie, and is now a globally recognised name for authentic fruit liqueurs from Burgundy.

The company’s headquarters remain in Nuits-Saint-Georges (5 rue Jules Verne), in the heart of Burgundy’s Grand Cru vineyards. In 2021, the company was acquired by the Martinican GBH Group, though its production philosophy and recipes have remained unchanged.

The unique selling point of this liqueur is the exclusive use of the finest blackcurrant variety, the Noir de Bourgogne. This variety is considered particularly aromatic, but has a low yield of only around 3 to 4 tonnes per hectare and requires intensive care.

The fruit is grownon the slopes of the Burgundian Grands Crus around Nuits-Saint-Georges and harvested by handat the start of summer when fully ripe. Cartron has maintained close relationships with local growers for generations to ensure the highest possible quality of this unique variety .

The Double Crème de Cassis has a garnet-red, opaque colour with bluish highlights. Violet-coloured ‘legs’ (church windows) form on the glass .
