Product information
Bouchard Père & Fils Corton-Charlemagne 'Grand Cru' 1977
Due to its considerable age of almost 50 years, there are only a few available bottles and only a few recent tasting notes. The following information is therefore based on the few surviving records and general references to this legendary wine.
🏠 The winery: Bouchard Père & Fils
Foundedin 1731, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest winegrowing dynasties in Burgundy. Over the centuries, the family has acquired plots in the best vineyards of the Côte d'Or, including the prestigious Corton-Charlemagne. Today, the estate owns around 3.98 hectares of the Grand Cru vineyard on the hill of Corton , facing east and south-east. These plots, with their shallow, marly soils on a limestone foundation, provide the basis for wines of exceptional class and longevity.
🍇 The terroir: Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
The Corton-Charlemagne appellation is one of the most famous white wine sites in the world. It stretches across the municipalities of Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny and is known for its powerful, mineral and extremely long-lasting white wines made from the Chardonnay grape variety. What makes Corton-Charlemagne so special is its complex terroir: the limestone and marl-rich soils, the location at an altitude of 250 to 330 metres and the ideal sunlight give the wine its unmistakable structure and enormous ageing potential.
🍷 The wine in detail: Bouchard Corton-Charlemagne 1977
Ageing: The wine matured for around 12 to 13 months in French oak barrels, of which up to 15% were new.
Alcohol content: 14.00% vol.
🥂 Tasting note (generic)
Generic notes that apply to this wine describe a complex, powerful white wine with a distinctive personality. On the palate, it shows a harmonious balance of acidity and minerality, with flavours of ripe pear, hazelnut and a spicy note.
📈 Current condition and drinking recommendation
With a bottle this old, the condition is crucial. A bottle offered in April 2026 had a "high shoulder" fill level, which can be considered good for its age. The label was legible and the capsule was clean. The recommended drinking window for Corton-Charlemagne is generally five to ten years after the harvest. At almost 50 years old, this wine is therefore well beyond its classic consumption window, making it a rarity for passionate collectors.
💰 Current market situation
The 1977 vintage is an absolute rarity, which determines its value accordingly:
Price (iDealwine, average 2024): The iDealwine platform estimated the average price for a standard bottle (0.75l) at €52.
Current offer (ShareWine, April 2026): A single bottle was offered at a fixed price of €200. The moderate fill level ("high shoulder") explains the significant mark-up compared to the average price.
The Bouchard Père & Fils Corton-Charlemagne 1977is more than just a drink - it is a living contemporary document of Burgundy's winegrowing history. For collectors, a bottle of this rare vintage is a real curiosity that impressively demonstrates the high art and longevity of the House of Bouchard.
