Rémy Martin Accord Royal
Introduction: The royal reconciliation
The Rémy Martin Accord Royal is more than just a cognac - it is a piece of history in a bottle. It was created in 1927 to commemorate a special event: the reconciliation (French "Accord") between King George V of England and the French Republic. This cognac was created to celebrate this "Royal Peace" (French "Accord Royal"). It is and remains a prestige cuvée from the Grande Champagne, the first and most prestigious cru of Cognac.
Sensory description
Accord Royal is a pure Fine Champagne Cognac (at least 50% Grande Champagne, the rest Petite Champagne), which achieves its exceptional complexity through long maturation in Limousin oak barrels.
Colour:
Deep, radiant mahogany with amber reflections - a colour that bears witness to years of ageing in oak barrels.Nose:
The bouquet is intense, rich and of great elegance. It opens with a mixture of:Dried fruit: Fig, date, sultana and apricot jam.
Floral notes: Lime blossom and violet, a classic note of Grande Champagne.
Spicy flavours: vanilla, cinnamon, clove and a light note of honeycomb.
Rancio Nobles: An elegant and complex note of walnut and almond, hinting at oxidative ageing.
Palate:
The entry is exceptionally soft, silky and full-bodied. The flavour is a perfect continuation of the nose:Aromas of preserved citrus fruits (candied orange peel) and ripe plums spread out.
The spicy notes of vanilla and cinnamon are accompanied by a delicate chocolaty and peaty depth.
The structure is powerful, but always remains elegant and balanced, without any biting alcoholic sharpness.
The finish is exceptionally long and persistent, leaving a wonderful aftertaste of spices, dried fruit and a light mineral freshness.
Specialities & production
Purity of the terroir: As a pure Fine Champagne Cognac, it comes exclusively from the two best vineyards in the region. This gives it its characteristic finesse, elegance and longevity.
Ageing: The Cognac is aged for many years, sometimes decades, in old oak barrels, which give it its complex flavours and velvety texture. The average age of the eaux-de-vie in the cuvée is very high.
The bottle:The iconic, bulbous decanter with its silver or gold-plated decoration and silk case emphasises the prestigious and festive character of this cognac.
Drinking recommendations & occasions
Serving suggestion:
Glass:A large, tulip-shaped Cognac glass (e.g. an "Ingelheim" glass) is ideal for concentrating and savouring the complex bouquet.
Temperature: Serve at room temperature (18-20°C). Do not heat, as this will destroy the delicate flavours.
Enjoyment: Accord Royal is a Cognac for special occasions.
The perfect digestif after an excellent meal.
To celebrate a special moment (birthday, anniversary, great success).
As a sophisticated meditation drink for quiet and pleasurable moments.
Suitable accompaniment:A light cigar (e.g. a mild Havana), dark chocolate with a high cocoa content or simply on its own to appreciate its full complexity.
Conclusion
The Rémy Martin Accord Royal is a Cognac of truly royal stature. It combines the powerful elegance of Grande Champagne with the timeless complexity that can only come from long ageing. It is not an everyday drink, but a luxury for connoisseurs and special occasions. Its soft but infinitely long finish makes it an unforgettable experience. If you are looking for the essence of a great, traditional Fine Champagne Cognac, you will find one of the purest and noblest representatives in the Accord Royal. A Cognac that fully deserves its name and its history.
