Appearance:
Deep, clear mahogany colour with golden reflections and an almost timeless brilliance. The colour is reminiscent of liquid amber, typical of centuries-old Madeiras.
Nose:
An overwhelming bouquet of dried figs, candied dates and sultanas, surrounded by caramel, burnt sugar and roasted walnuts. Notes of old leather, cinnamon, cloves and a subtle oxidative elegance reminiscent of precious wood and yellowed parchment resonate underneath. A hint of balsamic vinegar and orange peel adds freshness.
Palate:
An opulent entry with melting sweetness perfectly contrasted by a vibrant, almost electrifying acidity. Layers of flavour of toffee, honeycomb, candied citrus and roasted almonds unfold. Refined notes of liquorice, tobacco and a smoky minerality emerge in the background. The mouthfeel is silky, dense and of incomparable depth.
Finish:
An endlessly long finish that lingers for minutes. This is dominated by gently fading flavours of caramelised pear, crushed walnuts and a subtle salty trace reminiscent of the sea breeze - a trademark of old Madeira.
