Château Lafleur 1986
Historical classification and significance
The year 1986 marked a very good vintage for Château Lafleur, one of the longest-lived wines of the region. The vines, which were already very old at the time - with an average age of over 45 years - were planted on the unique geological formation of deep gravel, sand and iron oxide-rich clay that defines the terroir of Lafleur.
Vintage conditions and weather patterns
The 1986 vintage began with a cool, wet spring, followed by a changeable summer. The decisive turning point came with a spectacular Indian summer in September and October:
August: Moderate temperatures with sufficient rainfall
September: Ideal sunshine with cool nights
October: Exceptionally warm and dry
Harvest time: 13-25 October (extremely late for the time)
