Joh. Jos. Prüm Winery – The Crown Jewel of Mosel Riesling

On the steep, rugged banks of the Middle Moselle, where the ancient slate terraces reach up towards the sun like an amphitheatre and the river cuts through the green valley in majestic meanders, lies a winery whose name epitomises German Riesling – Joh. The vines, many of which are over sixty years old, are rooted in this barren rock and wrest from it the most precious thing nature has to offer: grapes of concentrated sweetness, fine acidity and an unmistakable aroma of ripe peaches, green apples and a hint of exotic fruits.

The estate’s philosophy is one of uncompromising quality. The grapes are harvested by hand, rigorously selected and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place slowly in traditional casks made from old oak, with the natural yeast process lending the wine its unmistakable depth. What sets Joh. Jos. Prüm apart from others is its dedication to noble sweetness – here, Spätlesen, Auslesen and Beerenauslesen of unforgettable elegance are produced, which retain their youthful vibrancy even after decades of ageing.

The estate’s most famous wine is undoubtedly the Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese, a wine of beguiling sweetness yet with an almost weightless acidic structure. Within its golden nectar, aromas of yellow fruit, honey, a hint of smoke and the unmistakable minerality of the slate into a symphony of harmony. Every sip is a journey through time, a whisper from the ancient terraces that have been weaving the sun into their vines for centuries.

Today, this legacy is safeguarded by the fifth generation of the Prüm family, and the name Joh. Jos. Prüm is synonymous worldwide with the perfect Riesling – a living poem crafted from slate dust, Moselle light and the endless patience of nature.
