Linwood – The Whispering Poet of the River Lossie

Founded in 1821 by Peter Brown, this distillery looks back on over two centuries of unbroken whisky-making tradition. Whilst its more famous neighbours, with their grand names and imposing chimneys, vie for the world’s attention, Linkwood remains a reserved poet, whose verses lie hidden in every drop of its noble creation.

The distillery itself, nestled amongst the region’s lush vegetation, appears like a quiet gem, its white walls blending gently into the lush green landscape. The air is filled with the scent of the nearby woods, damp moss and the sweet aroma of ripe fruit, which blends with the malty scent of the stills. The water of the Lossie, soft and pure, flows through the historic premises and lends the distillate that remarkable smoothness which sets Linkwood apart from its heavier cousins.

The characteristic copper stills, still preserved in their original form, are the heart of the distillery. They produce a light, elegant spirit which slowly matures in the old vaults of the storerooms, in former Bourbon and sherry casks. Over the years, the young spirit transforms into a symphony of honey, vanilla and a delicate hint of orange blossom. Aromas of green apples, ripe pears and delicate grass caress the palate, whilst a subtle, almost understated spiciness of cinnamon and cloves rounds off the tasting experience. A subtle undertone of blossom honey and the nutty nuances of almonds and hazelnuts lend the whisky its unmistakable depth.
