Aldo Conterno

The Aldo Conterno winery is one of the most renowned producers of top Barolo wines and the Conterno family can look back on over 150 years of winemaking tradition. Aldo Conterno (1931-2012), a pioneer of modern Barolo, separated from his brother Giovanni (Giacomo Conterno) and created his own, finely balanced style that combines tradition and innovation.

The estate cultivates around 25 hectares of vineyards in the historic Romirasco, Cicala and Colonnello cru sites in the Bussia zone, known for their mineral soils and ideal south-facing locations. Aldo Conterno relies on selective harvesting, long maceration and ageing in large oak barrels to emphasise the elegance and complexity of the Nebbiolo grape juice. His Barolo Riserva "Granbussia" (only in top vintages) and the Barolo "Romirasco" are legendary, with their captivating flavours of cherries, truffles, liquorice and velvety tannins.

After Aldo's death, his sons Franco, Stefano and Giacomocarried on the legacy, preserving the artisan philosophy and focussing on sustainable cultivation. The wines are considered the epitome of the modern, more accessible Barolo style - powerful, yet delicate and long-lasting. Aldo Conterno shaped the Barolo renaissance and remains a reference for wine lovers worldwide.
