Kartäuserhof Winery - Historical heritage and delicate Rieslings in the Ruwer

The Kartäuserhof winery, located in the tranquil village of Eitelsbach on the Ruwer (a tributary of the Moselle), looks back on over 650 years of history. Its roots go back to the 14th century, when the vineyards were cultivated by the Carthusian order - a legacy that is still alive today in the name and in the emblematic Carthusian monk on the labels. Since 1811, the estate has been run by the Rauen family, who preserve the historical heritage with modern precision.

The centrepiece of the estate is the famous Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg vineyard, one of the oldest monopole vineyardsin Germany (the estate owns the entire single vineyard). The steep, south-west facing slate slopes of the Ruwer give the Rieslings a unique combination of delicate acidity, mineral freshness and ripe fruit. The vines, some of which are over 80 years old, are deeply rooted in Devonian slate, which gives the wines structure and longevity.

As a member of the VDP(Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter - Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates), the estate favours strict yield limitation and selective manual harvesting. Traditional methods are used in the cellar: spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, long fine lees contact and ageing in large oak barrels. The portfolio ranges from sparkling, elegant Kabinett wines and concentrated Spätlese wines to powerful Grosse Gewächse (GG) and rare ice wine.

The Kartäuserhof Rieslings are considered the epitome of Ruwer elegance - characterised by salty minerality, citrus-fresh vitality and a refined aroma of white peach. Awards such as regular top ratings in the Eichelmann wine guide and international recognition emphasise its class.

A visit to Eitelsbach not only takes you through spectacular vineyards, but also into a world in which medieval history and modern winemaking merge. Here you can taste the spirit of the Carthusians - and the passion of a family that has prioritised terroir above all else for generations. 🍇🏰
