"The Guardian of Burgundy’s Mosaics" – Domaine J. Faiveley

Nestled amongst the rolling hills of the Côte d’Or, where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay strive to express their very essence, lies a vineyard of almost unfathomable grandeur – the Domaine Faiveley. The year 1825 marked the beginning of its long journey, when Pierre Faiveley laid the foundations for an estate that is now run by the seventh generation of the family. With 130 hectares of vineyards spread across the most prestigious sites of the Côte de Nuits and the Côte Chalonnaise, Faiveley ranks among Burgundy’s most significant family-run estates – a living archive of Burgundian diversity.

What sets this estate apart is not merely the sheer size of its holdings, but the diversity of its origins. The Grand Cru Corton ‘Clos des Cortons Faiveley’ is unique amongst the Grands Crus: one of only two monopoles named after their owner. Its exposed location and limestone-rich soil lend the vines a depth that is revealed in full-bodied wines with mineral rigour . The 12 hectares of Grands Crus and 27 hectares of Premiers Crus form the heart of the estate, a mosaic of limestone, clay and marl that transforms each vintage into a story of its own year after year.

The winemaking process follows a philosophy that combines both artisanal precision and respect for nature. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in open wooden vats using natural yeasts – a method that preserves the wine’s authenticity. The wine is aged for 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with the proportion of new oak varying according to the vineyard site and vintage. The wine is bottled unfiltered to preserve the unadulterated essence of the terroir.

Domaine Faiveley is a quiet giant whose wines reflect the fascinating range of Burgundy – from the powerful, structured Pinots of the Côte de Nuits to the elegant, mineral Chardonnays of the Côte de Beaune. Today, Erwan Faiveley and his sister Eve steer the fortunes of the estate, skilfully mastering the balancing act between tradition and innovation with a gentle hand. A legacy that is not merely preserved, but comes to life anew in every drop – a mosaic of timeless beauty.
