The Perrier-Jouët champagne house in Épernay is one of the most elegant and style-defining houses in Champagne.
Its history began in 1811 with a love story, when the young
wine merchant Pierre-Nicolas Perrier married Rose-Adélaïde Jouët and
founded the house of the same name with her.
From the very beginning, the house embraced a style characterised by lightness and
elegance, which set it apart from the often fuller-bodied wines of the time and
was particularly appreciated in the important English market.
As early as 1854, Perrier-Jouët classified its vineyards according to quality –
a revolutionary idea at the time, which was later adopted by the entire Champagne region .
The
house’s terroir is exceptional. Perrier-Jouët owns around 65
hectares of vineyards, a remarkable 99 per cent of which come from Grand Cru and
Premier Cru sites. The heart of the vineyards lies in the famous communes of Cramant, Avize and Mailly-Champagne. In particular, the chalk-rich soils of Cramant lend the Chardonnay grapes a mineral structure and floral freshness.
The house’s cuvées are blended in roughly equal parts from Chardonnay and
Pinot Noir, along with a small proportion of Pinot Meunier.
The
distinctive style of Perrier-Jouët is particularly evident in
the iconic ‘Belle Epoque’ prestige cuvée. First created in 1964,
it is instantly recognisable worldwide by its bottle featuring delicate white anemones
.
This work of art was designed as early as 1902 by the famous Art Nouveau artist
Émile Gallé and has been combining art with champagne ever since.
Chief Cellar Master Séverine Frerson relies on the fine art of
blending, the long ageing of reserve wines and a delicate dosage to
preserve the delicate, floral style with notes of white peach and acacia .
Today, Perrier-Jouët is part of the Pernod Ricard Group and produces around three million bottles annually. The house is strongly committed to sustainable viticulture and has been HVE-certified since 2012.
With its unmistakable style and the blend of nature,
