1. Overview & Introduction

The Quinta de Pancas Vinho Regional de Lisboa Reserva 2024is a dry red wine aged in wooden barrels from the Lisboa growing region in Portugal. Labelled as a "Reserva", it is a cuvée made from carefully selected grapes, which is given more complexity and structure through an extended ageing period. The 2024 presents itself as an accessible, yet multi-layered wine with an excellent price-performance ratio.

2. Quinta de Pancas winery

Quinta de Pancas looks back on over 500 years of history. It was founded in 1495 and is located near the village of Pancas in the municipality of Alenquer, around 45 kilometres north-west of Lisbon. The vineyards cover more than 60 hectaresand are located around 35 kilometres east of the Atlantic Ocean on a unique terroir landscape of hills and valleys protected by the nearby Serra de Montejunto.

The estate was a pioneer inPortugal in the cultivation of French grape varieties (particularly Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay) and is now recognised as one of the best producers of these varieties in the country. Vasco Costa and Francisco Garcia are responsible for the oenology and cultivate the terroir with great passion and dedication. After a period of fluctuating quality, extensive changes in vineyard and cellar management in recent years have led to Quinta de Pancas regaining its former strength. The estate is part of the WineStone Group.

3. The 2024 vintage

The Reserva Tinto 2024 is a novelty presented by Quinta de Pancas in spring 2026. It bears the protected geographical indication Vinho Regional Lisboa(IGP) and reflects the identity of the unique terroir, which is characterised by the Atlantic influence and the protective location behind the Serra de Montejunto.

4. Vinification & grape varieties

The cuvée of the Quinta de Pancas Reserva Tinto 2024 is made up of a harmonious blend of three grape varieties:

Grape varietyProportionCharacteristic
Cabernet Sauvignon主导Structure, cassis flavours, fine tannins
Touriga Nacional主导Full-bodied, complex floral and fruity flavours
Alicante Bouschet主导Intense colour, dark fruit aromas

This red wine matured for six months in French oak barriques. The alcohol content is 13.5% by volume (for the Tinto).

5. Characteristics

  • Colour: The glass shows a deep, intense ruby red, which underlines the youth and concentration of the wine.

  • Nose: The bouquet is seductive and intense, characterised by an appealing abundance of fruit with notes of raspberries, blackcurrants and blueberries. There are also complex aromas of black fruits and undergrowth, complemented by subtle nuances of black pepper and dark chocolate. A subtle vegetable and floral element rounds off the flavour spectrum.

  • Palate: On the palate, the wine is structured and supple at the same time with firm but silky tannins. It is balanced, has a lively acidity and good persistence. The short maturation in barriques (6 months) is perfectly integrated, so that the wood note does not dominate, but serves the fruit complexity.

  • Finish: The finish is long and persistent.

  • Alcohol content: 13.5 % vol.
