Tasting note: Grivelet Père et Fils - Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru 'Les Charmes' 1971

Colour:
In the glass, the wine presents itself with a translucent, garnet-brownish colour, surrounded by age-appropriate brick tones at the edges. The centre still reveals a delicate ruby depth, an indication of the former vitality of this Burgundy.

Nose:
The olfactory palette is characterised by tertiary aromas that reveal the elegance of age: damp leaves, truffles and underground mushroom notes combine with dried cherries and a subtle vanilla. Slight hints of leather, tobacco and a mineral layer (chalk) emphasise the typical Chambolle-Musigny finesse. A hint of hibiscus blossom gives the nose a surprising freshness.

Palate:
A complex interplay of maturity and precision unfolds on the palate. the acidity is still remarkably lively, carrying the delicate flavours of dried raspberries, stewed plums and a hint of balsamic. the tannins are fully integrated, silky and barely perceptible. the texture is lean but with an aristocratic density, accompanied by earthy nuances and a gentle spiciness (white pepper).

Finish:
The finish is long and lingering, dominated by a salty minerality and a melancholic sweetness reminiscent of apricot jam. The final note is a harmonious echo of forest floor and matured wood.

Overall impression:
A timeless elegance that reflects the soul of the "Les Charmes" terroir. Despite its age (52 years), the wine retains an astonishing freshness and structure, a testimony to careful ageing. The complexity is impressive, even if the primary fruit has receded in favour of a subtle, delicate ripeness. A wine for connoisseurs, which masterfully embodies the philosophy of old Burgundy.

Ageing potential:
At its peak - now optimal to enjoy, as further ageing could jeopardise the delicate balance.

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5 stars) - A historic droplet that inspires respect and emphasises the magic of Burgundy.
