Tasting note: Domaine Leflaive Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 1983

Appearance:
Deep golden colour with amber reflections indicating a mature elegance. Slight cloudiness as a sign of natural development.

Nose:
Complex and multi-layered with a harmonious interplay of tertiary aromas: dried apricots, liquid honey, roasted hazelnut and a subtle oxidative note reminiscent of fine sherry. Beneath this, fine minerality (chalk) and a hint of vanilla oak resonate, wrapped in a smoky spice.

Palate:
Full-bodied and velvety on the palate, carried by mature acidity that remains surprisingly present. Flavour nuances of caramelised citrus, baked pear compote and almond biscuits dominate, accompanied by a salty minerality and a delicate bitterness that lends depth. The texture is creamy, almost oily, but always infused with a fresh structure.

Finish:
Long-lasting and meditative, with echoes of honeycomb, white pepper and an earthy, almost truffle-like complexity. The final mineral precision emphasises the origin from the Grand Cru terroir.

Overall impression:
A timeless wine that masterfully demonstrates the art of ageing. Domaine Leflaive shows its ability to combine power and finesse here. Despite its 40 years, the wine is lively, with perfectly integrated maturity. It is at the peak of its development - a delight for lovers of classic, mature Burgundy.

Ageing potential:
With ideal storage (cool, dark, constant temperature), it will keep until at least 2030, although without significant further development. Recommended to open it within the next decade to experience its current balance.

Suitable accompaniment:
Fine shellfish (lobster, langoustine), roasted turbot with truffle shavings or mature Comté cheese. Also an experience on its own as a contemplative wine.

Rating:
A wine of iconic stature that underlines the legend of the 1983 vintage and the mastery of Domaine Leflaive. 96/100 points.

Note:The nuances described assume a perfect ageing history. Bottle variations are possible at this age.
