Product information

My first great Bordeaux was Margaux in the summer of 1986. At the time, I was in the process of "retraining" myself from a beer drinker to a wine drinker. Margaux was on the menu of a restaurant on Sylt for a sinfully expensive price. At the time, I would never have dreamed of ordering and drinking something like that. But a well-known collector and philanthropist wanted to open my eyes with this bottle. He succeeded in the long term. Since then, I have had sentimental memories of this '61 Margaux, which opened up a whole new dimension of enjoyment for me. Then in 1993 from the magnum, incredibly strong, dense colour, delicately spicy, slightly exotic nose, needed time to develop - 95/100. In 1994 at the big Margaux tasting in the Wachau, my most beautiful Margaux to date from the magnum. Very strong colour, sweetish, opulent, plummy and still fine, beautiful, very long finish, clearly the best of four magnums at this tasting - 98/100. Shortly afterwards in the Korone Assmannshausen, another magnum, very delicately scented and aromatic, but the palate couldn't keep up - 93/100. In 1997, at a 61 tasting from the 1tel, it already seemed to be clearly on the decline, the fruit was gone - 90/100. 2001 ripe colour, in the nose light stink, very beautiful and elegant, but also already a little emaciated, not very long on the palate, only interesting in large bottles - 91/100. Actually I had already written off the 61 Margaux in the meantime, but in 2007 at René Gabriel's big Margaux tasting a sensational bottle came out of which this highly aromatic, finely scented, elegant giant stood like a one in the glass - 97/100.(Source: wineterminator.com Dr. Becker).
