Product information
Chateau Margaux has been competing for centuries with Chateau Lafite Rothschild for first place among the 1er Cru Classé growths of the Bordeaux wine-growing region. The entire estate with all the vineyard sites of Chateau Margaux is located in the commune of Margaux on the Gironde. Chateau Margaux covers an area of 99 hectares, of which 87 hectares are reserved for red wine. Like Lafite Rothschild, Chateau Margaux also produces a very good so-called "second wine". The Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux is a great Bordeaux and is of a very high quality in good vintages. At well under 100 euros, the Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux is also much cheaper than the Grand Cru Classé wine from Chateau Margaux.
Robert Parker 88/100 (01-1998) Margaux, along with Petrus, is unquestionably one of the best two wines produced in the 1980 vintage. This is a wine of uncommon power, concentration, richness, and beauty. It has a ruby colour, fine extract, and a surprisingly long, supple palate. This medium bodied and still moderately tannic wine should continue to drink well for at least a decade.
