A legendary red wine from one of the best Bordeaux vintages of the 1980s - the 1986 La Mission Haut-Brion combines the power, complexity and typical mineral elegance of this top vineyard.

Sensory analysis

Colour:

Deep garnet red with a slight brick edge - signs of maturity, but still surprisingly fresh.

Nose:

Classic Pessac-Léognan aromas: smoke, cedar wood, blackcurrant and a mineral note of wet gravel.
Tertiary development: Tobacco, leather, truffle and a subtle vanilla (from ageing in barriques).
Underground: Blackberry jam, black pepper and a hint of pencil minerality (graphite).

Palate:

Powerful but elegant - densely structured with fine-grained tannins.
Aromas of black cherries, plums, liquorice and a smoky, almost peaty nuance.
Lively acidity gives the wine a taut line.
Extremely long finish with hints of dark chocolate, coffee and fine oak.

Overall impression:
A Grand Vinwith a perfect balance between fruit, structure and complexity. The 1986 La Mission shows why this château is often considered the equal of Haut-Brion itself.
