Product information

Today, Chateau Latour has its very own marketing and sales strategy. Rumour has it that Chateau Latour still has almost 40 percent of the bottles produced from the 2005 vintage of the century in its own stocks. It must therefore be assumed that around 120,000 bottles of the premier cru classé wine are still slumbering in the cellars at Chateau Latour. In this way, the owner participates on a large scale in the increase in value of the first years after the subscription of the primeur wines. However, Chateau Latour can only afford this strategy if it has sufficient capital resources; in earlier years this was practically unthinkable. All the châteaux were happy to have sold their entire stock in order to be able to produce wine again for the coming year and make the necessary investments. However, due to the booming market in Asia, many wine estates such as Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Chateau Haut Brion and Chateau Margaux, to name but a few, are keen to participate in the increase in wine yields and maximise profits.
Parker N° Bordeaux Book 1998 (01.01.1998) : 90 Maturity : 2007-2025 A terrific wine for the vintage, Latour's 1993 reveals an opaque purple colour, a backward, cedar, black walnut, cassis, and earth-scented nose, medium to full body, gorgeously rich, concentrated fruit, moderately high tannin (but no astringency), and a sweet, long, powerful finish. The wine does not possess any of the vegetal, green pepper characteristics of the vintage, nor any hint of hollowness or harshness. This wine may prove to merit an even higher rating. Is this vintage the modern day clone of the 1967 and 1971?
Wine Spectator (31/08/2000) : 89 Very friendly for a young Latour. Lots of plum, Merlot character in this wine. Medium- to full-bodied, with fleshy fruit and soft and juicy tannins. Sweet fruit aftertaste. Drink now through 2015.
