1964
The vintage year 1964 is a well excellent year after the lousy 1963s wines. An almost ideal growth period let tannin rich wines arise. The very rainy weather gave no end of trouble the winegrowers for the harvest in Bordeaux in autumn, many vineyards drowned almost in the high tides. The enterprises were met by the sudden change in the weather completely unexpectedly. Everyone is awkward one prepared this some terrific, charming, long-lasting and strong wines. The best credenzas were produced in Graves and Pomerol as well as St. Emilion. Outstanding, Cheval Blanc very good and chateau Haut Brion 1964 are also chateau Petrus beautifully. The year can still be fun, provided good storage and a little happiness with the bottle today.
1964 was a difficult wine year, hardly vintage qualities by rain and moderate grape good, in Portugal. The houses did not declare the vintage. Avoiding!
In Germany a really terrific vintage. The hottest summer since living memory had to tank the grapes many sun hours and to grow up for the harvest fully ripe. In some situations the dryness caused the winegrowers considerable problems. The old vines were favoured with a deep root apparatus like always. These can provide humidity for the growth also in dry phases enough. Some long-lasting noble sweet wines of highest elegance and refinement have been prepared in the Rhine district and at the Moselle. These can be very beautiful in today's time still. The region Moselle Saar Ruwer seems to have prepared the best wines, though. The high acidity has helped the enterprises! Egon Müller and Hermann Dönnhoff have to be taken into account but Prüm and Loosen are also wines recommendable. Tip!
