1957
The vintage year 1957 seemed beginning to fill the dealers in Bordeaux and the importers with enthusiasm from the European neighboring countries. After the weak 1956s year one needed fresh, better wines for the high demand. The weather conditions were anything but good. Frosts in April destroyed the flower and a cold August did not let the grapes ripen enough. A golden October saved the winegrowers and acceptable grapes could be brought in into the cellars. The wines were made for an early consumption, though, these fell off strongly with the age and flagged noticeably already within the first years. Bottles on the market to be only drunk beautifully today with luck. Paying attention to the well-known producers!
No declared port year of moderate quality and unbalanced wines. Avoiding!
In Germany like also in France heavy frosts within the spring months. A beautiful summer and a satisfactory autumn followed. Better than in Bordeaux, also today riskily, however. Nevertheless furthermore noble sweet wines can represent a drinking pleasure.
