The vintage year 1955 is regarded as a very good locum tenens of the Bordeaux wines. The warm summer in large parts of the country let the grapes reach a high maturity degree, the berry bowls got thick and tannin strong, long-lasting wines arose. The year was underestimated by the wine experts within the first months, one could not put the elevated quality of the vintage in order. The profits were on average. The wines are regarded as charming, filigree, balanced and fascinating. The style had to be compared contrarily with today's Bordeaux wines by no means. Unknown, this one were the lavish, swanky tannin chunks and the unit mash of today's wines from the region at that time producers relied on her independent Terroir and the cellar arts of the employees. So independent wines of most different expressions arose. Some wines of the vintage as a recommendation are chateau Lafite Rothschild, Vieux chateau Certan, Cheval Blanc and chateau Margaux. Altogether, the wines of the right shore, St-Emilion and Pomerol, are probably more successful than her counterparts of the left shore. For the 1955s vintage a search is worthwhile still for a long time. Current in many bottles on the highlight!
26 port houses declared the really good vintage. The best year since the good 1948s. Beautiful summer, shower of rain, acceptable harvest terms in autumn led to mature, strong wines of high elegance and with a long ageing potential. The search is worthwhile here!
