The vintage year 1948 started promisingly with a brilliant spring and nursed the hopes of the winegrowers. The cold summer and the lacking sun hours caused difficulties for the maturing of the grapes. Old vines still carried the best fruits. The beautiful autumn saved the harvest and therefore also the vintage. Small profit of partly attractive wines. Different qualities of outstanding till weak. Chateau Mouton Rothschild succeeded in 1948 in a top-quality wine which a little reminds to the 1945s. Still recommending at good bottles. Very good also chateau Leoville Barton and chateau Petrus. Increase riskily today!
Of only 9 port houses declares in which it was actually a really good year with ideal weather conditions. Had one miscalculated the producers? Today, still finding beautiful wines but rare. Tip
Good until average year also in Germany at moderate profits. Some bottles possibly have survived, in any case are on the lookout after noble sweet wines.
