The vintage year 1920 granted a terrific start to the producers from Bordeaux in the probably best decade of the long history. The 1920s years delivered an abundance of terrific vintages with which some century wines were produced. A difficult July followed on a beautiful flower in 1920 and the grapes could not attain the usual maturity degree August. This was settled fortunately by the marvellous autumn with many sun hours. The winegrowers took her grape good to her cellars in sunny weather. Altogether little profits by the rottenness in summer, however high qualities. Chateau Lafite Rothschild and chateau Mouton Rothschild produced fully ripe and really long-lasting wines. The wine of the vintage could be chateau Cheval Blanc. Terrific wines were produced also in the Pomerol wine cultivable area in 1920. At a good storage, today, a lot of wines still have to be drunk with pleasure, too!
23 port houses declared this good vintage. The search is worthwhile here surely still for a long time.
In Germany also an outstandingly good wine year with a lot of noble sweet wines which, today, still can be outstanding. Particularly successful in the Rhine district and at the Rhine front.
