1970
The vintage year 1970 is a clear recovery in Bordeaux after the 3 terrible vintages. Just within the first years the French wine critics traded the 1970s wines as outstanding and enormous ageing capably. However, this not always and primarily could not be confirmed in all Bordeaux regions within the following decades. August brought many sun hours and high temperatures, the grapes formed thick bowls and high extract. Unfortunately, the dryness gave no end of trouble many enterprises. The old vines were in the advantage! The market waited for good, first-class wines already for a long time and the prices rose strongly. Producers and dealers had to make the dry years away and to bring in a new chapter for vineyard and wine cellars. The vintage 1970 has turned out well particularly in St. Emilion and Pomerol. Chateau of Pétrus is a century wine. Chateau also belongs to Latour to the stars of the year. Cheval Blanc and chateau Mouton Rothschild are furthermore good. One must pay attention to bottles stored well here, though. Today most on the market available there copies are from the USA from a back runner. The bottles were stored in great heat on a ship on the return to Europe. Altogether but a successful wine year!
Super weather and outstanding wines of elegance and refinement. 23 port houses declared the vintage. The search is worthwhile after 1070s ports.
Arisen in Germany quite good wines of elevated quality which, however, have to be compared with the 1971s and 1976s plants under no circumstances arose. Average weather terms provided relatively mature grapes, the wines lacked the cutting and the necessary elegance at long last, however. Finding nevertheless still beautiful noble sweet wines. Rhine district and Moselle at the best one!
