The vintage year 1961 goes down in history of the Bordelaise as a century vintage. Frosts in spring decimated the possible profit already to the beginning of the year, showers of rain in April and May reduced in addition the fertilization of the flowers. A very warm however dry summer led to fully ripe grapes with thick berry bowls. The vintage 1961 is compared with the 1945s wines often since both show a certain similarity of the weather terms and the maturity potential. In autumn and especially a terrific, warm and sunny autumn followed in September with many sun hours in 1961. The grape good therefore received the finishing touch and the producers could uncomplicatedly bring in the harvest into the cellars. The processing of the wines caused the vintners few problems with this excellent grape good in 1961, outstanding growth were produced on many chateaux. Tannin strong, multilayered and balanced wine chunks with high ageing potential and refinement provided beginning already effusive appraisal of the wine critics one. The vintage belongs to the Non plus extremist of the last century today. The best wines are chateau Latour (a century wine with a crazy potential), chateau Petrus, the most expensive wine on the wine list of scratch Carlton in Moscow chateau Haut Brion, chateau Cheval Blanc and chateau Mouton Rothschild (in the Magnum). Chateau Lafite Rothschild was structured not exceptionally well in this vintage like also chateau Margaux. Terrific wines and still nice to drink are nevertheless both. Chateau Latour 1961 is a unique wine experience with an unbelievable, long passing. Another 25 years potential. But also the little wine-growing estates produced sensational wines with good structure and balance. Only some examples are a legendary chateau Plamer 1961 chateau Beychevelle, chateau Gruaud-Larose, chateau Talbot and this one. Today the vintage 1961 becomes rare and one should try now to acquire some wines for his digest.
Average port year, that one did not declare because of the outstanding 1960s plants of the port houses. Fine 20-year Twanys and Late bottled Vintage wines!
Bad and rainy summer let the grapes hardly mature in germany. A beautiful autumn could prevent the worst and beautiful wines were nevertheless produced. One still today very seldom and at noble sweet plants recommendation.
