Bordeaux Wines from France

Bordeaux is a city in the South of France. She represents the example of the complete wine world for centuries and has lost nothing of the uniqueness in the area of wine and culture to this day. Her reputation did not get the city of Bordeaux alone by the high-quality bordeaux wines but also by the good cooking and the structural and cultural inheritance of the town. The complete wine world whether in France, California, Australia or Italy, orientate himself at the style and the quality of the Bordeaux wines.

The cultivation of the wines takes place on the very lean ground. This soil is able to store or to receive many water and heat. These conditions and the mild wintry climate as well as the long summer ( high number of sun hours in the year) are ideal for the wines and therefore lead to the production of the unique Bordeaux wines.

The city of Bordeaux is divided up into eight municipal arrondissements units. The first six situate on the left side of the Garonne shore which ones from the north are numbered to the south. The seventh scope of management is a resident on the right side of the Garonne shore. With the eight scope of management the district Cauderan is meant.

The history of the city of Bordeaux

The story of Bordeaux was included for already over 2,300 years. She was shaped by the celts, the romans, the franc and the English - / French opposites. Since the 15th century one has put Bordeaux prototypical through to France. In the 3rd century the Bordeaux wine got his first ‘’bloom’’ and hold on for several hundred years. In the fifth century a coining hit below the belt followed Bordeaux when the west Goths devastated Bordeaux and the city was taken by the francs later. Many areas devastated, illness broke in and sorrow came over the native population. In the 9th century the Normans pillaged the city once more. Only after this time began the recover for Bordeaux slowly. Bordeaux experienced his second ‘’bloom’’ by the leadership of the kings in England from 12 until the 15th century. The 3rd ‘’bloom’’ followed then by the arising maritime trade in the 18th century and led to a new richness in the region. In the 20th century despite the first and the second World War Bordeaux remained almost undamaged. During the wars the city of Bordeaux was a stronghold of the resistance, opposition was exemplified here and realized.

Bordeaux began with the outstanding structural change only in second half on the 20th century. Adjustments were performed at a cultural and agriculture level. These guidelines were overdue already and helped the producers to set new quality standards and to rise the bordeaux wines on a new standard. Her historical heritage became conscious of the city completely only in the nineties of the last century. The old town was altered traffic-calmed and historical buildings redeveloped complex and expensively. The tourism found his way to Bordeaux with large steps now. This happened with the long viniculture tradition and justified a new source of income for the people of the region.

Types of wine

The Bordeaux wine is produced out of and off-cut of different types of wine. The special choice of wines which are combined serves the special character of the bordeaux wines. They refine the overall picture and lead to an almost inimitable independent flavor. According to the climatic conditions of every year the bordeaux wines become out of three to five wine-variants blended. As a rule, these are at least two types of wine, however. As an exception the high-quality Pomerol wines like Chateau of Pertus which prepared from Merlot apply to it. Pure wines arise on the left shore from time to time, too. The 1994s Chateau Lafite Rothschild is one example, which one represents 100 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon wine.

The most famous wines like Lafite Rothschild Chateau Margaux, Chateau Latour, Haut Brion, Leoville Las Cases, Chateau Palmer or Pichon Baron are pressed mainly of four types of wine. The principal ingredient of the bordeaux wine cultivable are is planted with red wines, some with foreign notes and types like the noble sweet semillon grape( Chateau D’Yquem) are also present. Dry white wines are pressed from Sauvignon Blanc, however, establish only a small constituent of the bordeaux wines. Were here this one to call world-famous Haut Brion blanc. (best years 1989, 1990, 2000 and 2005).

Brand wines and material wines (Chateau wine) – Two types of bordeaux plants

  • Suitable wine variants are joined together over a brand wine to mention a customer field diversified broadly ( Mass wine) Brands like ‘’ Mouton-cadet’’ or ‘’ Michel Lynch’’ are known. The condition is very high and the quality is constant over the years and formed a counter reconnaissance value for the regular customers.
  • The Chateau wines are from one single landowner. ( Grand Cru Classé wine) The reputation oft he owner plays a very large role and has increased over centuries. Under this the known and brilliant Chateaus falls from Bordeaux like Lafite, Mouton, Haut Brion or Margaux.

Catering trade

Not only the wine makes Bordeaux so famous and unique, also the varied cooking . The bordeaux wine is used in a variety of specialities. Some spices like garlic and onions are partly replaced with these wines and the wine juice is applied into a lot of sauces and food. A special speciality in Bordeaux is the so-called ‘’ Lamproie a La Bordelaise’’ which as much as ‘’lamprey’’ means. The lamprey is a snake-shaped fish whose red blood is processed with bordeaux wine to an expensive sauce.

Crus and hierarchy

As described already, a Chateau produces one single, special wine. The name ‘’ Grand Vin’’ also finds herself again here. This forms the cru of a producer and represents the showpieces of the production. Further parcels and barrels which are out of the question of the quality for a cru wine are frequently labeled as second wine or filled as material wine.

By the different qualities of the producers and its basement techniques fast different and divergent hierarchies took shape within the last centuries. The official classification then took place to the wines,, Medoc’’ and the sweet wines of ‘’ Barsac-Sauternes’’ in 1855.

This classification was prepared for the world extribition in Paris on basis of ancient documents and represented a real innovation. However, many producers disapproved of this procedure because they feared for her existence and sales problems of her wines. It was provided actually to enlarge and to adjust these divisions. Only one single revision is actually the advancement of ‘’ Chateau Mouton Rothschild’’ since then, however turned out well to the first league in the year 1973.

Today, the classification of 1855 surely is not always at the current stand. Some good judged more weakly have learned an enormous advancement formely grand estimated producers are fallen because of mistake or lacking use. This makes it very difficult for the lendings to take a sound sale decision for bordeaux wines of basis of the classification of 1855. The goods declared as premier cru classe wine, however, are still this plus ultra of this region.

A new phenomenon in Bordeaux, independent of the described classification took his beginning in the nineties of the last century – the so-called garage wines. These wines are produced by the little wine-growing estate with the highest possible quality demand into small quantities. These growth are regarded as cult wine for the connoisseur of wine and the gourmets worldwide and are just popular with millionaires and multi-billionaires. The grape which are used at the production stand out due to a most possible maturity of the harvest best, a strong concentration, and an extreme use of a new barrel of barrique. ( little barrel) Many established wine-growing estates consider the garage wines a fashion wine and are aware of the advancement not or only disapprovingly. The probably best known garage wine is Chateau Le Pin, an extremely expensive wine in almost insignificantly little edition. The best years were 1982, 1989, 1990 and 2000 as well as 2005. However, he cannot be paid for the average consumer, the year 1990 costs over 3,000 euros.

Price trend of the bordeaux wines

The wine enthusiast recognizes strong fluctuations in the pricing for the cru classe wines year by year. This used to arise from the different outputs mainly in the turn of the year. The dollar exchange rate also played and plays a role. Today, the prices are almost determined exclusively by the appraisals of the wine popes like Robert Parker, though and the demand from Asia and Russia provides, this one desired and confessed Chateau wines at just.
